Response to the First SA2 Critic

I love the various ideas and perspectives shown by everyone. Among those shown on the first day of critic, I really like this particular shot.
At first glance, the overall feel of the shot immediately reminds me of this particular photo of
Celine Dion:
By drawing the similarities of these two photo, I'm really impressed how the photographer not only effectively used artificial light, but also direct model's movement and facial expression to create mood and convey implied message. I'm especially convinced by the photographer's intention of showing one of various presence of black lady in current society. The careful arrangement of the poster and the bookshelf surely fostered the impression of model's glamour intelligence and elegance. The sense of elegance is especially successful when you consider the shot of the ordinary lady has a very close feel to a professional shot of a well-known singer.

Although it is hard to pick out one that I really don't like, some improvement could be made to ensure this photo's purpose as a environmental portrait:
This photo succeed in showing confidence of model by the look on the face and movement of the head. However, the environmental part could be greatly improved by including more surroundings into the frame. By doing that the story behind this confident guy will be easier to interpret by viewers.
